Krishnamurthy Prasna Kundali - An Ideal Method

By Shri A. Y. Sabne

From time immemorial Man has the attraction about the future. Even though thousands of years have passed by, still that basic characteristic of man remains as it is. Because of the attraction for the future, to quench his thirst in the form of curiosity man discovered different types of Astrology and conducted research in them. That is still continuing.

There are different varieties of astrology or futuristic. For example traditional, tajik, raman etc. Recently new edition has been made in them. This method is popularly known as Krishnamoorthy Paddhati. In this method, a sub- topic called Prasna Kundali is considered to be the ideal method to get answers for instant questions.

This method got its name from its name of creator Prof. K. S. Krishnamoorthy. He was born on 1.11.1908 in the village Thiruvayyarru. After completing his studies from St. Joseph College in Thiruchirappali, He started his service in the pubic health department as health Inspector. Right from his childhood he had interest in Astrology. Because of this addiction and in order to devote himself fully to Astrology, He took voluntary retirement from service. In 1963 he started a monthly magazine called “Astrology and Adrushta". He obtained many awards in research in Astrology.

In the traditional Astrology every Nakshatra is divided into 4 equal parts. Each of this part is of 3020' and is called Charana or Pada. Since a Rasi of 300, each rasi has 9 such Padas.

But in Krishnamoorthy Paddhati a Nakshtra is divided in proportion to the number of years of Mahadasa to which it corresponds. Nobody can deny the importance of Mahadasa in judging a horoscope. Since no other school of Astrology has adopted this method Prof. Krishnamoorthy is called a father of this unique method. The method to find out Nakshtra sub-lord is very easy in this method.

Every Nakshtra has 800' (13020'). This is divided into 9 parts, not equally but in proportion to years of Mahadasa in Vimsothari.

Vimsottari Dasa

Table No.1

Degrees Nakshtra Nakshtra Nakshtra Dasa Years
13020' ashwini magha moola ketu 7 yrs
13020' bharani poorva poorva ashadha shukra 20 yrs
13020' kruttika uttara uttara ashada surya 6 yrs
13020' rohini hasta shravana chandra 10 yrs
13020' mruga chitra sravishta kuja 7 yrs
13020' ardra swati satabhishak rahu 18 yrs
13020' punarvasu visakha poorva bhadrapada guru 16 yrs
13020' pushya anuradha uttara bhadrapada shani 19 yrs
13020' ashlesha jyeshta revathi budha 17 yrs
total 9 9 9 9 120 yrs

Now each dasa is divided into 9 Bhuktis starting from the Bhukti of the Dasa Lord. e.g If it is Shukra Dasa the Bhuktis are in order of Sukra, Surya, Chandra, Kuja, Rahu, Guru, Shani, Budha and Ketu.

What is the space occupied by each Bhukti in a Nakshtra?

Table No.2

Bhukti Degree Minutes Seconds
Ketu 0 46 40
Sukra 2 13 20
Surya 0 40 0
Chandra 1 6 40
Kuja 0 46 40
Rahu 2 0 0
Guru 1 46 40
Shani 2 6 40
Budha 1 53 20
Total 13 20 0

These planets or called sub-lords of the Bhuktis or Antardasas. In Krushnamoorthi paddhathi the sub-lords play a significant role.

In this method a planet situated in the space of a particular star will give the affects of the Nakshtra Lord also. e.g. Suppose Kuja being Lord of 4th and 9th is situated in Lagna then the plantes situated in the stars under Kuja's lordship namely Mriga, Chitra and Savishta give the results of 4th, 9th and lagna bhava during their Dasa and Antardasa in addition to their house they are in and the house they lord over.

In this paddhathi, Bhavas are demarked on the basis of Bhavchalita kundali.

Rahu and Ketu affectively give results according to the Lord of the Rasi in which they are situated.

In this method, while analysing an occurrence, not only the related main Bhava is taken into consideration but also the Dasa and Antardasa of the Lords of connected Bhava which supplement it for example Normally while considering about children, only fifth Bhava is considered in the traditional methods, whereas second and eleventh Bhavas and the planets in them are considered effective during their Dasa and Antardasa in this method.

Prasna Kundali or the horoscope of the time at which a question is asked , is used to answer an instant question, for a long long time in India. As per rules, a Nirayan Bhavachalit horoscope should be prepared for the purpose but due to aversion towards difficult mathematical calculations, nowadays the answers are given on the basis of ordinary prasna kundali. In practice, it is found that through this ordinary prasna kundali only the answer for the first question of the day is correctly arrived at, that too if the moon on that day is moving through the beneficial houses of the astrologer.

Late Shri Krishnamoorthi had this to say regarding prasna kundali "suppose two candidates standing for election in a village against each other come to an astrologer and raised the question' whether I will win the election' at the same moment, then the astrologer has to give the same answer to both of them. But in reality if one candidate wins, the other has to lose”. This is only a hypothetical analysis. Still due to many other reasons also, Prof. Krishnamoorthy felt the necessity of an alternative method for prasna kundali.

First of all it is necessary to discuss regarding what exactly is prasna kundali and what is its basic concept.

It is a maxim in Astrology that the questioner would have brought with him the answer to his question. The national occurrences happening at the time of the question, the situation in the surroundings, the method of entering of the questioner, the way of his sitting, various omens, the nadis prevalent and that time like ida, pingala etc. , All these and some more criteria are used in astrology to answer questions.

In addition to this it is told in Astrological books that, the planetary position at the time of asking questions also give an answer to the question. There are different opinions among astrologers regarding which time is to be considered for casting a prasna kundali according to some it should be of the time at which the question arose in the mind of questioner. According to some others it should be at the time when the questioner came to astrologer. Still some others feel that it should be the time when the question is actually asked.

Analyzing this problem Shri Krishnamoorthy says “The arousal of the question in the questioner's mind should be treated as time of conceiving the arrival of the questioner to the Astrologer's place should be treated like arrival of pregnant lady to the hospital and time of asking the question should be considered similar to birth of child. Just as horoscopes are made on the basis of the time of birth similarly the horoscope of prasna kundali should be of the time of asking the question”.

But it is not enough to just think about the questioner only. Normally it is expected that, as soon as a question is asked, the Astrologer should cast the horoscope of that time and should answer the question. Astrologer should keep aside his personal problems and with a calm mind answer the question. This calmness should not be superficial. Sometimes it is difficult for the astrologer to keep his mind peaceful and calm.

Hence Prof. Krishnamoorthy has suggested an alternative. If, at the time of questioner asking the question, the astrologer is not in the proper frame of mind and is not in a position to cast the horoscope of that time, then, he should ask the questioner to tell him a number between 1 and 249. Then find the corresponding rasi, degree, minutes and seconds to that number in the Krishnamoorthy Paddhati, treat that as the nirayana Lagna and find out all other Bhavas for that degree. When the astrologer sits peacefully for solving the question, the planets at that time should be taken into consideration.

There is no deviation in the original roads of Prasna kundali because of this different method adopted in the Krishnamorrthy Paddhati besides it is more advantageous. By asking the questioner to tell a number between 1 and 249 the astrologer is only asking the questioner which lagna is to be considered. This is in consonance with the maxim “The questioner brings the answer himself ". It is experienced that most of the answers arrived at through this method or found to be correct.

In this paddhati (Prasna Kundlai), much importance is given to the ruling planets. These are planets which rule the relevant bhava at the time of questioning or at the time of solving the question. Prof.Krishnamoorthy calls them divine guides. He conducted the research on them for many years and finally gave this invaluable gift called Krishnamoorthy Paddhati to astrology. He has proved that the planets prevalent at the time of the question have some connection with the incidents related to the question.

The following planets operate as ruling planets

In this paddhati extra ordinary importance is attached to the shadow planets Rahu and Ketu. These planets get the Karakathva of (1) the Lord of the Rasi in which they are situated and (2) the Lords of the planets with whom they are in conjunction.

As this method is scientific, any person with minimum mathematical abilities can answer the question, sitting in any corner of the globe. The fundamental principals underlying this method are

The scope of this subject is very vast. Even then this much can be said in conclusion that Krishnamoorthy Prasna Kundali answers questions correctly to the extent of 85%.
